Story

If creativity starts from the imagination, jewellery designer and maker Rachel Kearsley has a rich vein to tap into. As a young girl, her grandpa told her a true story about how, as a soldier fighting in South East Asia, he once rescued a Burmese princess (from what or who, she never knew). As a token of gratitude, her grandpa was given a number of rare and precious gemstone jewels.

"I’ve been a tiny bit obsessed with gemstones ever since” Rachel admits, “I also have a love of colour so search out striking colours and stones from around the world to help create my pieces."

After dabbling in jewellery making In her spare time for many years, Rachel decided to retrain gaining a diploma in Jewellery Manufacturing & Design in Hatton Garden, London, and Jitterbug Jewellery was born. Much of the inspiration for her designs is heavily influenced by the exotic rich colours, culture and vibrancy of Asia, having travelled extensively through the continent over the years.

Rachel’s attention to detail and quality finish is clearly expressed in her handcrafted 'Colour Me Happy' collection, that has colour at its heart and is both laid back and glamorous in style; sterling silver and 18ct gold plated multi-strand bracelets made with rich colour wash combinations of pinks, greens and mauves to golds, sapphire and peacock blues. Layered sterling silver necklaces and a mix of 9ct gold and sterling silver multi strand earrings that are simple, stylish and sparkle from the semi precious stones that adorn them.

"I want to create pieces that are confident and individual in style as well as being versatile, so look as stunning with a T-shirt and jeans as they do with a cocktail dress. Above all, I want to emulate all the beauty and magic of gemstones & crystals in timeless pieces of jewellery.”
